NavCom provides the CARA Flight Line Test Set (FLTS) for the purpose of verifying total CARA system functionality at the organization level on the aircraft. The test set is intended for use as a general purpose fault isolation tool for testing of the CARA Receiver-Transmitter (RT), antenna cables, and antennas.

The FLTS can be used in the following modes of operation:

Antenna Coupled – In this mode, the RF path is through transducers which are mounted to the antennas. The transducers are capable of operation with aircraft which use CARA fixed wing and F-16 antennas which are mounted directly to the skin.

Direct Coupled – In this mode, the RF path does not include the antennas. The test set cables are connected either directly to the RT or to the RT through the antenna cables.

Three delay values (simulated altitudes) are available. The first equates to a very low altitude which simulates ground operation. The other delays are equivalent to approximately 150 and 2,500 feet in altitude. The attenuation in each delay path is such that loss of track is obtained when the variable attenuator is set to its maximum value.
